First International Conference On Holistic Health & Medicine
The First International conference on Holistic Health & Medicine was held on Dec 8, 1989 in Bengaluru (Bangalore) and was hosted by the Academy of Holistic Medicine.
The Conference was a congregation, for the first time, of eminent doctors and practitioners from many backgrounds and disciplines, both modern and traditional. Its major objective was the creation of an International Network of holistically orientated organizations in order to form one body which could represent Holistic Medicine throughout the world.
It was hoped that this international effort towards world health and peace would help us integrate our growing knowledge in the fields of health and illness and encourage a greater cooperation between health-care systems of different traditions.
Patrons of the Conference were HH the Dalai Lama, HG Dr. Paulose Mar Gregorios, Dr Karan Singh.

Global Holistic Health Summit on Holistic and Integrated Medicine
The Global Holistic Health Summit on Holistic and Integrated Medicine for the 21st Century was held in Bengaluru on 11th – 16th November 2001. This summit was organized by the International Holistic Health Association and hosted by SOUKYA International Holistic Health Centre.
Aims and Objectives:
- In its aim to promote Holistic and Integrated Medicine for the 21st Century, the 5-day International Summit brought together holistically oriented organizations, institutions, professionals, individuals and practitioners to share their experience, work and insights on a common international forum.
- To create an awareness of integrated medical policies in a global perspective thus addressing the needs of the different segments of society.
- Develop regulations, education and training protocols, national and international standards for integrated medicine and to establish an International Holistic Health Institute for training and research.
The Keynote addresses were given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, His Holiness Baselius Mar Thoma Mathews II, His Holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar, Dr Deepak Chopra, Dr. Karan Singh, Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Kazuhiko Atsumi, Dr. Stephen Rechtschaffen, Dr. Kim Jobst, Dr. Stephen Fulder and Dr. Norman Shealy.

This was hosted by SOUKYA International Holistic Health Centre, organised by International Holistic Health Association and sponsored by The National Foundation for Alternative Medicine, USA.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HEALTH FUTURES
The upcoming International conference - “Health Futures - Overcoming the Epidemic of Long Term Diseases” is being held in Bengaluru on 13th – 15th November, 2013. The College of Medicine’s first International conference will focus on long term disease - its prevention and its treatment. ‘Health futures’ will explore how medicine and the environment in which we live in will need to change if we are to have a serious chance of combating the silent epidemic of long term chronic conditions.
Key themes
- Integrative medicine which will include Allopathic system of medicine will be mainstream treatment option of the future.
- Preventive medicine is the key to bring down economic burden and health care spending.
- Research, development and education is the need of the hour to prove the efficacy and ensure the success of Integrative Medicine.

- Development of culturally appropriate and sustainable persons and community centered medicine. India is diverse and today, disease conditions develop mainly due to life style habits and high stress levels of work and survival. Even within a certain geographical area, there are community based reactions, habits leading to a certain pattern of diseases. The outlook of this conference is to create awareness in the Medical faculty to address an ailment or disease with this perspective in mind; on an individual basis as well as community basis.
- Discuss the treatment and management of Chronic diseases with AYUSH systems of medicine. Chronic diseases are the biggest challenge as it drains the health and emotional status of individuals. It also has a huge impact on the economy as it is a drain on finances too. Focus through AYUSH Systems, which can successfully address Chronic Diseases, is the way to a healthier community which benefits in a complete circle in the chain of economy.
- Focus on related Research, Development and Education in Integrative Medicine.
This unexplored area is the need of the hour in India. India, with its vast wealth of natural resources, can provide the world’s largest supply of Ayurvedic medicines and herbs. In addition, it has the largest number of patients available in the world to understand the effectiveness in a proper Research methodology. This combination, with the experts available in India, is being tapped in this conference. Allopathy has roadblocks in many a diseased condition and Research and proper Education of such conditions successfully treated through Integrative medicine will have a huge impact when shown to the scientific world. This aspect will be discussed and establishing a network for the exchange of scholars, students, teachers across the boundaries in AYUSH sector for teaching, research and development and establishing India’s role in Integrative Medicine is the main outcome of the conference.
